The Miseducation of Cameron Post
2012
The story
When Cameron Post loses her parents, grief arrives tangled with a feeling she cannot admit: relief that they will never discover she has kissed a girl. Growing up in Miles City, Montana, she tries to make sense of desire while living under the watch of her conservative aunt and grandmother. Friendship, movies and the possibility of first love offer spaces where she can imagine a different life. That privacy disappears when her sexuality is discovered and she is sent to a religious conversion program. Among other young people being told to change themselves, Cameron must navigate belonging, resistance and the question of who gets to decide what kind of person she should become.
