Big Swiss

Greta makes her living typing up the confidential sessions of a sex therapist in Hudson, New York. One client's voice begins to occupy far more of her attention than the job requires. Greta privately calls the woman Big Swiss, building an intimate picture of someone she has never met. Then she recognises that voice in town. Their encounter develops into an affair, but the relationship rests on a profound imbalance: Greta already knows secrets her new lover has never chosen to share with her. As attraction makes disclosure harder, private fascination becomes an increasingly precarious deception. This darkly comic novel explores desire, emotional avoidance and the ways people edit the stories they tell about themselves.
