Plain Bad Heroines

The story
At Brookhants School for Girls in 1902, Flo and Clara’s fascination with a daring memoir becomes a private society, inseparable from their love for one another. Their deaths help turn the school into a place of ominous stories, and further tragedy eventually closes its doors. More than a century later, writer Merritt Emmons brings Brookhants back into public view. A film adaptation draws actresses Harper Harper and Audrey Wells to the abandoned school, where the history they are recreating begins to disturb the present. Moving between the original school and its Hollywood afterlife, this gothic horror-comedy follows queer women caught in competing stories about love, ambition and a curse that may be more than publicity.
