The Killing Room
2006
The story
Detective Jake McCoy retreats to a mountain cabin while recovering from a shooting that left her injured and a child dead. An encounter with vacationing psychologist Nicole Westbrook offers a brief connection outside the weight of that experience. They part knowing very little about each other, expecting the intimacy to remain separate from everyday life. Back in Denver, a serial-murder investigation brings Jake to Nicole again, this time in a professional context. Their attraction threatens to interfere with the case and exposes a deeper difference between them: Jake lives openly, while Nicole has carefully protected her privacy at work. Reconnecting means confronting both the investigation’s demands and the unequal risks of being known. What began as an escape becomes a question neither can leave in the mountains.
