The story
Erica Ryan is returning from a disappointing business trip, while Abby Hayes is traveling to visit her mother before moving on again. Their plans are interrupted when their flight is diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, during the attacks of September 11. Local residents open their homes to stranded passengers, and Erica and Abby find themselves sharing an unfamiliar space amid fear and uncertainty. Their contrasting temperaments might ordinarily have kept them apart, but the experience creates an unexpected closeness. Over four days, practical kindness and emotional upheaval bring a possible romance into view. The question becomes whether a connection formed outside ordinary life can endure once travel resumes and each woman returns to the world she knew.
