Mrs. Middleton

Emma Bradley has spent eighteen months teaching in Africa, putting distance between herself and a confession she could not take back. She told Vanessa Middleton—her best friend’s mother—how she felt, then left England with the consequences unresolved. Coming home means seeing Vanessa again and discovering that time away has not made the attraction easier to dismiss. Vanessa is no longer only the woman Emma wanted from a distance, but pursuing anything between them threatens relationships both value. Their age difference and Emma’s friendship with Vanessa’s daughter make every step more complicated. As they confront what remains between them, the two women must decide whether avoiding disruption is a good enough reason to keep denying the possibility of a life together.
