Nina Evans expects an annual getaway with lifelong friends, not a death that changes the meaning of their shared history. When one of the women dies during their visit to Port Aransas, grief brings Nina into an investigation filled with troubling discoveries. Detective Quinn Stewart left big-city policing for a quieter life on the island, but the case draws on skills she thought she could use less urgently. As Quinn uncovers the victim’s hidden life, Nina finds herself caught among familiar people whose stories no longer feel secure. Quinn becomes an unexpected source of steadiness as well as protection. Their developing connection grows amid questions of friendship, betrayal, and trust, while the search for the truth puts pressure on everything Nina believed she knew.
