Finley Knight runs a private-investigation business while dwelling on the life and relationships she has lost. Rylee Moore arrives in Corpus Christi seeking a new start and persuades Finn to employ her, though initially only as a receptionist. A murder investigation brings detective Dee Woodard back into Finn’s orbit, reopening a connection that distance has not resolved. When further violence touches their lives, Finn refuses to remain outside the case and reluctantly draws Rylee along. Dee’s removal from the official investigation brings her into their improvised team. Their search leads toward dangerous people and concealed dealings, with personal loyalties complicating practical decisions. In the middle of the pursuit, the possibility of love reappears, but finding room for it depends first on surviving the truth they uncover.
