Her Body and Other Parties
2017
The story
A woman refuses to remove the ribbon around her neck. Another records her lovers as a devastating epidemic spreads. Elsewhere, the ordinary surfaces of shopping, television and bodily transformation give way to something strange and threatening. This collection moves between horror, fantasy and recognizable daily life, following women whose desires and experiences resist the explanations offered to them. Bodies become sites of secrecy, pleasure, violence and impossible change, while familiar stories reveal troubling gaps in whose version gets believed. Across its shifting forms and unsettling premises, the book explores queer intimacy and the pressures placed on women without reducing those lives to a single kind of story or conclusion.
