The story
Mat Pero knows the rhythms of Provincetown and the demands of her family’s lobstering tradition. She values both her Portuguese family and the lesbian community around her, but has learned to keep those parts of her life apart. Graham Connor approaches romance with more hope, even after a long stretch without a date. Deciding to enjoy herself leads her toward Mat, whose confidence makes a casual connection seem inviting. Their arrangement becomes harder to define when time together begins to include the ordinary intimacies neither expected. Graham wants room for something real; Mat has reasons for keeping love at a distance. Moving beyond a temporary affair would mean challenging the boundaries that make Mat feel safe, and asking whether Graham can trust what lies beyond them.
