A Haunting on the Hill
2023
The story
A grant gives playwright Holly Sherwin the opportunity to develop a production she hopes will change her career. Hill House appears to provide the space and atmosphere she needs: a large, secluded mansion where the company can live and rehearse together. Her girlfriend Nisa agrees to the rental despite her reservations, and the actors arrive carrying tensions of their own. The building soon contributes disturbances that cannot be explained as artistic nerves. Sounds, movements and a shifting sense of time unsettle the work and the relationships holding the group together. Their creative retreat becomes an encounter with a house whose long isolation has not made it willing to welcome its new occupants.
