BETWEEN THE COVERS

The story

Ten years into her marriage, Lenore has grown distant from her husband Henry, a steel magnate whose ambitions determine the shape of their life together. Their move from London to the British moorlands offers little escape from that imbalance. Then a carriage accident brings Carmilla into their home. Frail by daylight and strangely alive after dark, the newcomer unsettles Lenore in ways she cannot dismiss. Her presence awakens desires that marriage has left unspoken, while her unsettling nature makes attraction difficult to separate from danger. Set against the Industrial Revolution, this gothic reimagining of Carmilla follows a woman confronting the limits of the life she has accepted and the pull of an unexpected intimacy.
