A Grave Talent

A series of child murders puts newly promoted homicide detective Kate Martinelli on a case that offers little room to learn gradually. Her experienced partner is unhappy with the assignment, and the small community outside San Francisco where they are investigating keeps presenting more questions than answers. The presence of painter Vaun Adams appears to offer a promising lead. Celebrated for her art and notorious for a criminal conviction, Adams carries a history that may be connected to the current deaths. Kate must examine what happened eighteen years earlier without mistaking reputation for proof. Pursuing that distinction threatens the boundaries between her professional responsibilities and the private life she wants to protect.
