The Janet Watson Chronicles
The story
Returning from a civil war with a damaged body and an uncertain future, Dr Janet Watson is struggling to rebuild her life. Her mechanical arm makes returning to surgery difficult, and a breakup has added to her sense of displacement. Sharing a home with Sara Holmes brings a different kind of instability: Holmes is secretive, highly capable and connected to work Watson cannot easily understand. When veterans begin dying under troubling circumstances, Watson is drawn into an investigation that reaches beyond individual medical cases. Political interests and hidden power make the search increasingly dangerous. This near-future reworking of the Holmes tradition centres a queer Black doctor whose professional convictions put her at odds with the explanations she is offered.
