The Rise of Kyoshi

Long before she becomes a legendary Avatar, Kyoshi knows what it means to be overlooked. Her early life offers little reason to imagine that she will one day hold extraordinary power or carry responsibility for the balance of the world. When her identity becomes impossible to ignore, the discovery draws her into conflicts that ordinary strength and simple ideas of justice cannot resolve. Allies, outlaws and powerful enemies shape her path, while her connection with the firebender Rangi gives that journey a deeply personal stake. This novel explores the beginnings of an iconic figure, asking what someone raised without security will do when she gains the power to change other people’s lives.
