The One True Me and You

Kay is heading to a fandom convention with questions about identity that feel difficult to explore at home. Teagan is competing in a beauty pageant nearby, carefully managing a public image that leaves little room for being openly lesbian. Their meeting brings two seemingly different worlds into contact. For Kay, who is nonbinary, and Teagan, the possibility of romance also means considering how much of themselves they can safely reveal. Remi K. England’s YA novel follows a brief encounter between fandom and pageant culture that grows into something more consequential, with friendship, performance and the pressure to fit other people’s expectations shaping the choices both protagonists face.
