The Falling in Love Montage
2020
The story
After a painful breakup, Saoirse has little interest in believing that love lasts. Her plans for the summer before university involve distractions, parties and keeping family worries at a distance. Ruby, who loves romantic comedies, offers a different kind of arrangement: they can enjoy the memorable falling-in-love moments without committing to the serious relationship that usually follows. The rules seem to make a summer romance safe enough for Saoirse to try. As their time together accumulates, however, feelings prove less willing to remain inside a carefully agreed script. This young-adult novel follows two girls testing whether borrowing the pleasures of movie romance can really protect them from the vulnerability of caring about another person.
