That Could Be Enough
2017
The story
Mercy Alston has learned to regard hope as a dangerous habit. Working in Eliza Hamilton's household and helping preserve her late husband's history allows Mercy to keep her own disappointments carefully contained. Then dressmaker Andromeda Stiel arrives to speak about her grandfather, bringing confidence and flirtation into Mercy's orderly days. Andromeda is building a future on her own terms and finds Mercy's refusal to imagine happiness both frustrating and compelling. Their attraction unsettles the defenses Mercy has relied upon, while challenging Andromeda to look beyond the excitement of pursuit. For both women, the possibility of love requires more than desire: it asks them to trust a future they cannot guarantee.
