Amber was born on Earth, but her people are the Imria of Kurra. Living among humans has required her to hide part of herself, while returning to Kurra does not erase the experiences that distinguish her from those around her. Before her relationship with Reese and the events of Adaptation, Amber faced a different turning point: kibila, the Imrian ceremony through which she will choose a name and define her identity. First love, separation and the feeling of belonging to more than one world complicate that decision. Told from Amber’s perspective, this companion novella explores the personal history behind a character caught between cultures, tracing the choices and emotional attachments that precede her role in a larger interplanetary story.
