Reese’s trip home from a debate competition becomes a nightmare when birds bring down planes across North America. With flights grounded, she and her debate partner David attempt the drive to San Francisco, only to crash in the Nevada desert. They wake in a military hospital with their injuries healed and no clear account of what happened to them. Returning home offers little reassurance: the city is under curfew, and strange events follow Reese as she tries to recover her missing memories. Meeting Amber introduces an unexpected attraction alongside Reese’s complicated feelings for David.
