My Heart Underwater

Corazon is seventeen when a crisis at home and an inappropriate relationship with a female teacher upend the life she knows. Her father’s coma leaves the family under strain, and Corazon is sent to the Philippines to stay with a half-brother she has never met. The move places her in unfamiliar surroundings while offering a different view of the family history that has shaped her. Understanding her feelings for women is part of that larger reckoning. Laurel Flores Fantauzzo’s YA novel follows a Filipina American teenager confronting grief, displacement and adult failures, as she begins imagining a future less constrained by the expectations and secrets around her.
