Detective Inspectors Alexandra Blake and Maggie Campbell approach police work from opposite directions. Alex trusts her instincts even when the rules get in the way; Maggie believes those rules exist for good reason. A missing-child investigation forces them to work together, and their unlikely effectiveness is complicated by feelings Maggie is unwilling to acknowledge. Their partnership ends badly, leaving more than professional friction behind. Three years later, another assignment puts them together again, only for a plane crash to strand them in a blizzard. Surviving the cold requires cooperation, but depending on each other also means facing the attraction and resentment neither has managed to leave in the past.
