Biding Time

Centuries of experience have taught one vampire to keep her distance. She has survived by limiting the people who can reach her, building a life in Boston's Back Bay that leaves little room for emotional risk. Ruby Miller, her new neighbour, unsettles that careful arrangement. The attraction between them offers a reason to reconsider solitude, but intimacy also means confronting the hurt and betrayal that made withdrawal seem sensible in the first place. For a woman accustomed to thinking in lifetimes rather than seasons, letting someone matter again is no small change. Ruby's arrival turns a familiar existence into a question about whether love is worth another chance.
