Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit
2016
The story
Jo has been open about being a lesbian, but moving to a small Georgia town comes with a request to hide that part of herself. Her father hopes a quieter public identity will protect his ministry and his new marriage. Agreeing means navigating school and friendship under rules Jo has already outgrown, while the possibility of romance makes concealment more difficult. She must decide how much of herself she can set aside for the people she loves, and whether faith and honesty really have to pull in different directions. Jaye Robin Brown’s YA novel follows a girl whose own love life becomes inseparable from questions of family, belonging and visibility.
