Forgive Me If I've Told You This Before

Triinu Hoffman is trying to get through adolescence without drawing more attention from the people who bully her. In rural Oregon, that means concealing parts of herself from classmates and enduring a principal who offers little protection. As she begins to recognise her attraction to girls, private questions about identity unfold alongside the public hostility surrounding Oregon’s 1992 Ballot Measure 9. Friendship, first love and heartbreak become inseparable from the struggle to claim an independent life. Triinu cannot control what her community believes about people like her, but she has to decide how much of herself she is willing to hide to meet its expectations.
