The story
After her family’s financial collapse, April Harker earns small payments for fairy stories and sees few possibilities beyond her Massachusetts hometown. Wealthy Julius Thackeray offers marriage, travel and a future for her writing. His isolated estate promises a dramatic change, but Thornwood House soon reveals disturbing peculiarities: shifting corridors, watchful servants and traces of women who should not be there. April develops a connection with Marie, one of the spirits haunting the mansion, and finds comfort in her company. When Julius gives April access to the house’s many rooms, the secrets behind its grandeur become harder to ignore. April and Marie must confront the violence binding them to Thornwood if either hopes to escape.
