Epically Earnest

Janey’s senior year brings two questions she cannot easily put aside: whether to search for her biological family, and whether to tell Gwen Fairfax how she feels. Asking a longtime crush to prom would be difficult enough without personal history pulling her attention elsewhere. In a contemporary queer reworking of The Importance of Being Earnest, romantic uncertainty shares space with questions of identity and belonging. Janey has to decide what she wants to know about her past and what she is prepared to risk in the present. Molly Horan’s YA comedy follows the uncomfortable, hopeful work of making an honest request when a friendship and a possible romance are both at stake.
