Courting the Countess

Henrietta Knight inherits a title and an estate after her father’s death, bringing new responsibilities into a life already shaped by disappointment. Known as Harry, the archaeology professor has little faith in romance after witnessing her parents’ marriage. Restoring Axedale Hall seems a more manageable undertaking than trusting another person. Housekeeper Annie Brannigan arrives with her daughter Riley and a very different outlook. Despite difficulties of her own, Annie has retained an openness Harry finds both unfamiliar and compelling. Working within the same household draws them into each other’s lives, exposing the distance between Harry’s guarded expectations and Annie’s willingness to hope. Their growing attraction asks more of them than the practical business of the estate: it asks whether old lessons about love deserve to determine what comes next.
