A student's death unsettles Engelsfors, a Swedish town surrounded by forests where people can lose their way. Soon afterward, six teenage girls find themselves drawn to an abandoned park beneath a strangely red moon. They learn that they are witches named in an ancient prophecy, and that something dangerous is hunting them. Their new powers offer little protection until they can understand and control them. School, family tensions and the boundaries between friendship and hostility do not disappear with this revelation. Girls who have little reason to trust one another must learn to cooperate before their differences become fatal. Together, they begin searching for the force threatening their town.
