The story
Under Uruguay's military dictatorship, five queer women discover both one another and a stretch of coast where they might live with a little less fear. Their refuge becomes a place to return to across decades, carrying lovers, disappointments and changing hopes with them. Beyond it lie families and institutions that make an honest life dangerous; within it, friendship does not remove every conflict or wound. Each woman must negotiate her own needs alongside the bonds that hold the group together. Following them over thirty-five years, the novel traces how a shared sanctuary can sustain love and community without standing outside history, or protecting its inhabitants from every difficult choice.
