BETWEEN THE COVERS
The story
After losing her parents in Bangladesh, Ella grows up with relatives in Brooklyn, sharing a home with her aunt Anwar, uncle Saleem and cousin Charu. Her college years bring new possibilities for understanding her desires, but returning to the family also means entering a household with secrets of its own. Maya, a young woman fleeing a restrictive home, becomes part of the summer's unsettled relationships. Attraction and questions of belonging develop alongside pressures none of them can keep contained indefinitely. When a tragedy draws the family back toward Bangladesh, their private histories become harder to avoid, and Ella's search for a place in the world takes on a wider significance.
