Pippa Nelson has the training and discretion to manage demanding clients, skills she needs when organising a wedding that joins celebrity and political prominence. The bride’s mother, Lieutenant Governor Abigail Thorndike, is not simply another person whose wishes Pippa must accommodate. Five years earlier, the women shared a night neither has entirely forgotten. Seeing Abigail again on Martha’s Vineyard revives an attraction that comes with far greater complications than an event schedule.
