The Once and Future Witches
2020
The story
In 1893, witchcraft is supposed to belong to the past, surviving only in harmless household sayings and nursery rhymes. The Eastwood sisters suspect that something more powerful remains. Reunited in New Salem, Juniper, Agnes and Beatrice join the struggle for women's suffrage and begin searching for the forgotten practices that could turn political resistance into magic. Their work draws hostile attention, forcing them to rebuild damaged family bonds while finding allies beyond the movement's familiar boundaries. Beatrice's connection with journalist Cleo forms part of that wider search for solidarity. This historical fantasy follows three sisters confronting forces that would deny them both political power and the means to defend themselves, asking how knowledge can survive when those who hold it are silenced.
