Daughter of Mystery

Margerit Sovitre expects little from Baron Saveze’s estate, but his death leaves her with unexpected wealth and the services of his bodyguard, Barbara. Barbara had hoped for freedom; instead, she is assigned to protect a young woman whose inheritance has attracted resentment. Their uneasy arrangement develops into trust and love as each discovers possibilities that her former life denied her. Beyond the household, the illness of Alpennia’s prince feeds political uncertainty, while religious mysteries and scholarship open another path into power. This historical fantasy brings two women together amid disputed legacies, social constraints and the question of who gets to direct the course of their own life.
