The Mimicking of Known Successes

A disappearance on a remote platform sends investigator Mossa toward Valdegeld, a university settlement on Jupiter. There she needs the help of Pleiti, a scholar whose research concerns the possibility of restoring life on Earth—and who also happens to be her former girlfriend. Their reunion brings old emotional difficulties into a case that grows more consequential than either first expects. Academic ambitions and the future of humanity’s abandoned home become entangled with the mystery. Working together requires Mossa and Pleiti to reconsider both the evidence before them and the relationship they once failed to sustain. In an environment built to keep people alive far from Earth, trust may prove just as difficult to reconstruct.
