Taking Flight

After her mother's death and a series of troubles at home, seventeen-year-old Lauren Lennox is sent from Los Angeles to live with a counselor's family in rural Georgia. The arrangement comes with rules she has little intention of welcoming: farm work, school, counseling and regular church attendance. Lauren plans to endure only until her eighteenth birthday, when a friend can collect her and she can leave. In the meantime, resistance seems easier than giving anyone a chance to know her. The counselor's daughter complicates that strategy. As their connection grows, Lauren must navigate feelings that were never part of her escape plan and reconsider what she expects from the people around her.
