The story
Harper can see a number attached to every person: the age at which they will die. Experience has taught her that knowing the future does not mean she can change it, especially after the loss of her mother. Keeping people at a distance seems safer than living with the certainty of losing them. Then Harper meets Chloe and falls in love. Chloe’s number is sixteen, leaving Harper facing a deadline that could arrive before the summer ends. The connection she tried to avoid now becomes the reason to question everything she believes about her gift. Saving Chloe would mean discovering whether an apparently fixed future can be challenged at all.
