Sawkill Girls
2018
The story
Sawkill Island looks beautiful from the outside, but girls have been disappearing there for years. Marion arrives carrying grief, Zoey is determined to understand what happened to her missing friend, and Val knows more about the island’s darkness than her popularity suggests. The three find themselves confronting a threat that cannot be dismissed as a local story. Suspicion, loyalty and attraction complicate their relationships as they begin recognizing the roles others expect them to play. Claire Legrand’s YA horror novel follows queer girls within a wider struggle against a predatory force, bringing a sapphic romantic storyline into an ensemble story about power, complicity and resistance.
