Peta Lyre's Rating Normal
2020
The story
Peta Lyre has learned a set of rules for getting through a world that does not seem designed for the way her mind works. Following them helps her appear to fit in, even when the effort is exhausting. Then Sam arrives at school, and Peta’s carefully maintained routines begin to shift. A ski trip offers new confidence and the possibility of romance, but it also brings pressures that the old instructions cannot resolve. When things become difficult, Peta must consider whether being rated normal is a goal worth keeping. This young adult story follows a neurodivergent girl negotiating attraction, expectations and the right to decide which rules belong in her own life.
