Detective Constable Kate Wolfe arrives in Cheshire with a damaged reputation and little room for another mistake. A disciplinary hearing has ended her time in London, but her new posting offers no quiet opportunity to start again. Before she can settle in, she has already come to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Helen Taylor, a formidable officer whose own career has taken an unexpected turn. Arson attacks, a body in a burned building and a missing architect draw the two women into a dangerous investigation. As professional friction gives way to attraction, a vehicle discovered in a flooded quarry opens another route into the case—and into a past that refuses to stay buried.
