Etta is exhausted by other people's rules about who she is allowed to be. Her bisexuality has cost her a place among former friends, ballet makes her feel excluded, and recovery from an eating disorder brings its own complicated expectations. In her Nebraska hometown, there seems to be no category that leaves room for all of her. Then she meets Bianca in a therapy group, and their shared ambition to attend a New York performing-arts school gives them something to work toward. As auditions approach, Etta must navigate a friendship shaped by different struggles while deciding what belonging might look like on her own terms.
