Juliet Takes a Breath: The Graphic Novel

Juliet Milagros Palante leaves the Bronx for a summer in Portland just after coming out to her family. With her mother's reaction still weighing on her, the internship ahead seems to promise a new understanding of who she can be. Her employer is Harlowe Brisbane, a feminist writer whose work has meant a great deal to Juliet. Meeting her idol, however, brings difficult questions about race, authority and whose experience gets to define liberation. Juliet must navigate the distance between the answers she hoped to find and the people she encounters. Adapted by Gabby Rivera with art by Celia Moscote, this graphic novel follows a Puerto Rican lesbian learning to trust her own perspective.
