The story
After the death of Aunt Magnolia, Jane is left without the person who made her ordinary life feel full of possibility. An invitation from an old acquaintance to visit the island mansion Tu Reviens offers a change of scene. It also recalls a promise Jane made to her aunt: if the invitation ever came, she would accept. Inside the house, choices open radically different paths through mysteries, espionage, horror, science fiction and fantasy. Each possibility changes what Jane can learn and what she stands to lose. Her attraction to Ivy belongs within this branching exploration of grief and self-discovery. The novel asks how a life might unfold when one unfamiliar place offers more than one version of the truth.
