In the Key of Us

Andi arrives at Harmony Music Camp still grieving her mother and struggling with a trumpet that no longer feels familiar. Returning camper Zora faces another kind of pressure: her parents want a flute prodigy, while she longs to dance. As the only two Black girls in a largely white camp, they recognize things in each other that the people around them miss. Time together in cabins and kayaks gives them room to share fears, frustration and hopes they have kept private. Their friendship gradually becomes first love in a middle-grade story about music, loss, identity and finding someone who listens beyond the performance everyone expects.
