The story
In 1983, nineteen-year-old Becks inherits an unfinished computer game from the uncle whose death has left her isolated. Completing it becomes a way of remaining connected to him while searching for a direction of her own. Decades later, a researcher working with artificial intelligence confronts questions about technology and responsibility on a changing planet. Farther into the future, a scavenger encounters something that challenges the compromises of a life at sea. Homebound links these women through an evolving creative legacy, with Becks's queer self-discovery forming part of its human foundation. Across centuries, unfinished work becomes a means of reaching people its first makers could never have imagined.
