Gideon the Ninth

Gideon Nav wants to leave the Ninth House, its grim duties and its necromancers far behind. Harrowhark Nonagesimus, the young head of the House and Gideon’s longtime adversary, has a different plan. Summoned to compete for a place among the Emperor’s immortal servants, Harrow needs a cavalier, and Gideon’s sword makes her indispensable. Together they enter an unfamiliar palace where rival heirs pursue secrets and the promised reward carries lethal risks. Their hostile partnership becomes necessary to survival as the trials grow harder to understand. The opening Locked Tomb novel mixes a science-fiction setting with necromancy, political rivalry and a central lesbian swordswoman’s irreverent perspective.
