Emergency physician Hope Finlay is comfortable helping people in brief encounters that end before attachment can take hold. Waitress Laleh Samadi approaches life differently, drawing strength from a large Persian family and forming connections with ease. After Hope treats Laleh during a cardiac emergency, both begin experiencing knowledge and abilities they cannot explain. Laleh understands medical matters she has never studied, while Hope suddenly speaks Farsi. The apparent link between them grows harder to ignore and brings two very different women into sustained contact. Investigating what happened becomes inseparable from discovering who the other person is. This lesbian medical romance adds a speculative mystery to questions about intimacy, trust and whether an unexpected connection can become a chosen relationship.
