Friday I'm in Love

Mahalia Harris has missed the chance for the lavish sixteenth-birthday party she wanted, but a different celebration begins to take shape in her imagination. A coming-out party could give her a night defined by joy rather than money worries, classmates' prejudice or other people's expectations. She takes extra shifts, saves what she can and starts planning the dress and cake. There is also Siobhan, the new girl Mahalia would very much like to impress. Turning the idea into reality soon means balancing bills, schoolwork and relationships that refuse to stay simple. Mahalia has to decide how to celebrate herself without allowing the work of creating one perfect night to overwhelm her.
