The Third Daughter

Elodie expects to inherit the throne until her youngest sister is recognized as the fulfillment of a religious prophecy. Convinced that her own claim is essential to the country’s future, she seeks a potion to temporarily incapacitate the child. Sabine, an apothecary who sells sorrow, mistakenly supplies something far more dangerous: her own powerful tears. When Elodie’s sister falls into a sleep from which she cannot wake, the two young women must confront the consequences together. Their effort to undo the harm draws them into a growing attraction while questions of faith, political authority and family loyalty surround them. Emotion itself becomes a source of power in a kingdom already divided over who should wield it.
