The story
Lucy Muchelney has the mathematical ability to make a serious contribution to astronomy, but recognition has been difficult to claim in a world that privileges men’s work. A proposed translation of a French scientific text offers an opening, and the widowed Catherine, Countess of Moth, becomes her patron. Working together gives Lucy a chance to pursue her ambitions while Catherine begins to reconsider the possibilities of her own life. Their professional connection develops into attraction, creating another challenge to the expectations surrounding them. Set in Regency England, this historical romance follows two women seeking intellectual and emotional independence, with love growing alongside the struggle to have their talents and desires taken seriously.
